Saturday Indesign 2011 | Uocmas Events

It was the inaugural year for Uocmas to participate in 2011 Saturday In Design. The Uocmas Design Centre, Sydney took Saturday in Design event by storm with a design extravaganza with the launch of the following international collections: Oly San Francisco, Andrew Martin (UK), Lauren Ralph Lauren Home (US), and newest arrival Kelly Hoppen (UK).

Teaming up with Smeg Australia and Cadrys, the event kicked off with the Veuve Clicquot 'Le Fridge' bar opening the launch. The Smeg Cafe within the Uocmas Design Centre transformed into a Hugo's pop up restaurant, serving delicious pizzas, Italian espresso and Champagne.

This year The Project's theme was 'Elements'. Taking centre stage at the Uocmas Design Centre was a creative installation in collaboration with award winning designer, David Hicks as well as Cadry's and Smeg. The results were an inspirational project installation, entitled "Elementalism" which explored the elements that are fundamental for mankind – to eat, play and love. The vast installation spread over 200 square meters a transported guests to a nomadic, tribal environment and featured teepees constructed using Cadry's Kelim rugs, which stole the show.

Hicks' installation resulted in a riot on the human senses with thematic sound, visuals, textures, taste and smell. Elements included 70 Kelim rugs, 150 Sparkle cupcakes, a web cam, three TV monitors, Smeg Newson ovens, a game of Twister, Kaleidoscope mirrors, stacks of plates, fur and 30 cow hides- all in the name of Eat, Play, Love.

The day was a resounding success with an overwhelming amount of attendees.
