Grainne Bartholomew - Interior Decoration Essentials 101

"I wanted an on campus experience to excite, inspire and motivate. I did some research into various design courses on offer in Sydney.  The Uocmas Design School Interior Decoration course was the only one that seemed to cover a huge body of work relating to the industry in order to give students “the complete picture.”

Course studied at Uocmas Design School?

Interior Decoration Essentials 101

Why did you choose the Uocmas Design School?

Uocmas is a brand I have admired for quite some time and when I was looking to do a short course in interior design to add to my event styling experience, I was delighted to discover Uocmas Design School had one available that started that very next week! I did do some research into various design courses on offer in Sydney ( I wanted an on campus experience to excite, inspire and motivate) The Uocmas Design School Interior decoration course was the only one that seemed to cover a huge body of work relating to the industry in order to give students “the complete picture”. I wanted a course that was all encompassing so Interior Decoration Essentials 101 was the perfect choice.

What did you get out of the course?

It was challenging yet highly motivating. Every week we needed to produce, so you worked very hard but the end result was a complete portfolio worthy to take to future employers or clients. Doing this course allowed me to develop and hone in on what my true style is. I left the course feeling passionate, motivated and ready to go!

Tell us a little about you and what you do?

I am a freelance stylist for interiors, events and shoots and also offer a consultancy service for branding, marketing and PR for small female targeted businesses. I have a love for all things beautiful, soulful, inspiring and creative. I adore creating, finding and experiencing spaces with heart. I am also a mummy with two lovely little girls and an equally lovely Daddy. I have a love of reading, yoga and meditation as well as having and experiencing many travelling adventures.

Who and what inspires you in the interiors industry?

- The Design Files – all Australian blog with an insight into everything interiors – beautiful, gorgeous and my daily read.
- Design Sponge by Grace Bonny – a wealth of information, inspiration and divine style.
- I have recently come across the home of Lovestars Helen Baily – Oh! So colourful, so unique, fantastic display of eclectic loveliness and really reflects the fun aspect of her brand Lovestar. Helens home is on my inspiration board!
- Georgie Kay from ‘Georgeous” –an event stylist…with amazing style.
- Sage and Claire – they are a furniture retailer and designers and have recently designed 2 yoga studios in Melbourne for Light Box Yoga. Their style is superb. Again a boho mix with Indian inspiration.

How would you describe your personal style?

I have a soulful, bohemian eclectic style. I love colour, I love personality I love upcycled , recycled one-of-a-kind pieces with character. I love layering to add that sense of cosiness, that sense of “home” that is so inviting and provides that warm hug at the end of the day.

Your latest project?

I designed both a vintage little girls room and a living room that needed some character and personality. It was a very fun, intimate project.

What’s next?

Adding to our adventuring spirit, my family and I have decided to move to the UK for a couple of years basing ourselves in the seaside town of Brighton. I am very much looking forward to discovering new treasures, spaces and people and of course working on new endeavours.
