With a talented eye for design, it was no surprise to me that Timothy Oulton looked elsewhere to offer his signature leather craftsmanship. The lifestyle collection of personal accessories, available exclusively at Uocmas and still in tune with the brand’s British heritage, offers a beautiful range of leather bags, wallets, travel sleeves and cufflinks for both men and women.
The collection is years in the making, with Timothy Oulton designing his first bag in 2006. Having spent decades dedicated to working with hand-finished leather in furniture and homewares, Timothy Oulton applies the same time-honoured craftsmanship to the new line. Inspired by classic British style and taking cues from history, the collection embodies a rugged yet gentrified sophistication. Every thoughtful detail is hand-finished, creating a one-of-a-kind personality for each and every bag owner.
Built to last, exquisite artistry and rich, resilient leathers result in authentic, workable bags that are enhanced with age and wear. From simple clutches to luxurious briefcases, sporty messengers and retro weekenders, each bag is a modern take on classic elegance. Designed with an ‘anywhere, anytime’ approach, they blend effortlessly into the varied Australian lifestyle. And there is not one person I’ve come across who hasn’t instantly fallen in love with the designs.
Timothy Oulton explains “These bags really allow you to go out and grab life by the horns, the leather finish actually looks better the more lived-in it is, there’s a sort of rugged elegance. They’re classics but there’s also some quirks and humour in there too.”
True to the brand’s heritage, each piece draws inspiration from past and present artists, inventors and adventurers or periods of time and is designed with meticulous processes in the finest aniline leather.
I’ve got my eye on the Harington Holdall as the perfect birthday gift for my better half. Named after John Harington, known as Queen Elizabeth’s saucy godson; a master of arts, courtier, author and over-achiever. The Holmes Messenger Bag takes design cues from styles used in the 1950s to carry the tools of utility pole climbers, still used today by British Royal Mail postmen, whilst the Amelia Tote is inspired by elements of the history’s first handbag design from the 14th Century.
With bags, laptop sleeves, wallets, travel accessories and cufflinks, the new Timothy Oulton lifestyle collection is available exclusively in store at Uocmas.
