The New Neutrals

Forget monochrome, the new killer neutral combination is grey and dust. Draw inspiration from stone tones with pebble greys and dusty sand hues for a luxurious sanctuary.

Last week, The Block alumni Josh and Jenna created a sophisticated bedroom with these new neutrals to impress judges Romy Alwill and Darren Palmer on Reno Rumble, Channel 9’s new renovation hit. I loved everything about this room, the paired back and refined approach to styling and the heavenly palette. Sandy coloured cushions mixed with grey accents have me head over heals with this scheme.

It made me think – it’s time to say goodbye to the classic black and white combo and embrace these stone inspired shades. Monochrome is wonderful to offset a Scandinavian scheme but these new neutrals take luxury to new levels.

The Block also produced a few incredible bedrooms in the elimination rounds of Triple Threat. Eliminated couples Bec and George and Matt and Kim both used this colour scheme with brilliant results in two very different interior aesthetics.

It’s simple to create a beautiful room with this look. Start with light yet warm timber flooring and layer with soft linens in sofas or bedheads. Use a pale grey wall colouring paired with white and timber accents in the room. For styling, add h cushions and throws in different textures in these warm and cool stone colours.
