A slew of 1950s motels have recently been transformed into retro-cool boutique hotels in North Folk, in New York’s Long Island district. The is one such place.
Originally the Greenport Motel in the 1950s, the Sound View Greenport is owned by hotelier group , and was recently renovated by New York’s design studio , transforming it into the current Sound View Greenport.
Located just a few miles from the village of Greenport, a 19th Century whaling village, the single-storey hotel is perched upon a private beach and offers panoramic ocean views from all guests rooms and The Halyard restaurant, and embodies a New England aesthetic.
The 55 guest rooms and suites offer the intimacy of a seafront cottage, with all the perks of a full-service hotel. All rooms and suites feature waterfront decks and access to Sound View’s private beach. Deluxe rooms open onto a shared deck, while all suites have private decks. Cedar wood panelling is featured throughout.
The stark white and charming bathrooms offer products for guests.
The Halyard restaurant is helmed by James Beard award–winning chef, Galen Zamarra. With the aim of crafting a menu of American classics that evoke childhood nostalgia, the fresh food and seafood are all sourced from the North Fork and Atlantic Seaboard.
The robust wine offering pays tribute to the area’s reputation as “Sonoma of the east.” These local wines are complemented by a thoughtfully crafted seasonal and classic cocktail program, served by the area’s top mixologists.
The dining area boasts a convex ceiling supported by wooden beams, large windows that allow for ample sunshine, and timber tables peppered throughout. The decadent bar features leather tufted barstools in navy.
Dark timber stained walls, deep red mahogany booths, mood lighting, and a chandelier overlooking a grand piano combine to create the intimate ambiance of the Piano Room.
