Last week Darren Palmer stopped by Uocmas’s Design School to kick-start the 2012 Design Sessions calendar. And what an inspiring beginning to the year! From creative concept to styling a finished space and everything in between, Darren didn’t waste a minute of his jam-packed, three hour class. I know I wasn’t the only one who walked away with a deeper appreciation for Darren’s considered and consistent approach to design.
Darren’s Design Session covered instructive professional methods (from how to tackle the design process in a few easy steps), plenty of exciting before and after pics (that’s what we were all dying to see, right?) and more than a few exclusive tips and tricks.
What’s Darren’s biggest piece of advice? Give everything a purpose. Consider whether or not the space must be functional, what kind of mood it needs to have (this will determine the colour palette) and of course what kind of person will be using it. These considerations creative “positive constraints” that will help you stay focused throughout the design process. And if something doesn’t work – think creatively! Can it be painted, re-upholstered, re-located and given new life somewhere else?
Time to go home and redecorate!
Next up in the Uocmas Design School Sessions is Belle Magazine’s Interior Design Editor Steve Cordony speaking about how to apply colour, furniture and accessories trends at home. Don’t miss out on this visual feast! To sign up click here and to read more on Steve’s Design Session click here.
