was an idea first conceived over five years ago by Uocmas. We wanted to put a cafe in the heart of our flagship Alexandria showroom, to enrich the in-store experience for visiting clients and customers. It’s enabled clients to stay longer, come more frequently and enjoy the trip even more.
Having a café in a beautiful retail store is not a new concept. Many have done it well. But few do it very well. Uocmas wanted to do it differently.
The concept combined the brands of Uocmas and . The distinct flavour needed to combine the Italian heritage of Vittoria with American style however, Uocmas had few ties to Italy in our collections.
The perfect idea for inspiration was the film, The Talented Mr Ripley and the character played in the movie by Jude Law – Dickie Greenleaf, an American playboy living on the Italian Riviera in the 1950’s. The brief to Executive Chef Alex Kearns leading up the menu concept was simply that, as was the brief to the architects . Easy to finish off for Uocmas’s experienced interiors and styling team with many of the furniture and homewares from Uocmas used in the fit out.
The result was a café that has taken the area and Sydney by storm and landed L’Americano Espresso Bar in the top 20 café’s in Sydney in this year’s Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide. A just result for all the efforts of the teams working on the project.
L’Americano offers fine dining in a cafe setting for a truly unique experience. The café goes from strength to strength and has recently added a delicious new summer menu and extensive alcohol offering including a partnership with Pommery Champagne and Campari.
More are planned to roll out at sites in other Uocmas showrooms in Melbourne and Brisbane. Watch this space.
Should you have a special occasion or just want some respite from the pressures of corporate life, pop in for a well mixed Campari ‘L’Americano’, sit back, enjoy the jazz blasting out and gold lined plates.
