A Spotlight On India Mahdavi

In a city of restrained classicism and cloudy grey winter skies, the sister showrooms of Parisian-based designer are an unexpected explosion of colour and forward thinking design.

Sitting side by side on the Rue Las Cases, a conceptual furniture showroom and accessories store are a haven for the bold at heart; for those looking to add that element of surprise to their interiors.

Born in Tehran, and raised in America, Germany and France, Mahdavi eventually settled in Paris at the helm of Christian Liagre in Paris, as Creative Director.

Since her stint at Liagre, Mahdavi has been making a name for her own design business, working with daring clients who trust her talent.  “They aren’t looking for mainstream,” Mahdavi explains to “They tend to be people who are looking ahead.”

Most recognisable is her work for London’s sketch complex – famously now the most Instagramable interior in the world. The brief was to create a space to showcase the series of black and white drawings by David Shrigley; she complemented the drawings with a courageous millennial pink room (below).

India Mahdavi on colour: “It’s the best way to bring sunshine into a space.  Sunshine is happiness, and my work is about happiness.”
