For all the snow bunnies that appreciate luxury mountain lodging this is one location that has an impressive offering. I recently experienced the delights of this boutique hotel which is set amongst the rare beauty of the astonishing Italian Alps, the Dolomite Mountains, in the picturesque town Madonna di Campiglio. It really is the ultimate in Chalet Chic!
If you think this has been designed as just another luxury lodge, then think again. What makes this place stand out is its holistic designer approach that dominates every aspect. Everything is geared to please the guest from the architecture, the interiors, the way of thinking and most importantly the service. It is a delight on the senses.
The mountain backdrop plays an integral role in the overall theme of the interiors and each of the guest rooms is an ode to the stories that depict local heroic mountaineers (the “frenzied”, spectacular Piàz and Maestri, the “Purists”, introvert Preuss and Buhl to name a few). Handwritten tales of each mountaineer line the walls to the Chalet suites and corridors describing each of their mountain adventures.
The interiors are unique, contemporary and timeless designs with an overriding use of natural materials, varying animal hides and quirky designs that are all so alpine chic. Wall sconces made out of skis, antler occasional chairs, mountainous peaks carved out of timber clad walls forming hand rails, sheep-skin lined chairs, and the refreshing surprises of silver birch trees that appear to grow through the ceiling of the bar, are among some of my favourite features.
The Chalet interior seamlessly combines old with the new and is a gallery for many renowned designers including Le Corbusier, Mies Van der Rohe, Charles & Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto and Philippe Stark. Then there is the external architecture that boasts a striking contemporary design with three-dimensional timber rendering.
This is one impressive chalet in every aspect and its cutting-edge design is still so functional and equipped with every modern comfort to satisfy the most sophisticated modern tourist.
