Hang Ups: The art of the Modern Mobile

No longer just a kitschy accessory for a children’s room, the modern mobile has all grown up.

The art of the hanging sculpture first captured my imagination last Christmas, when I was searching for alternative festive decorations and found myself lost in an Etsy journey (see you 5 hours later).  I came across Scandinavian inspired designer who creates geometric hanging art pieces from brass or black straw.  The sculptures are such a simple, intriguing way to add another layer or dimension to an interior space.

Since then I have been fascinated with the way that a hanging object creates interest in a home.  There is something so organic about artful shapes floating in space, free to move with the movement of the room.   They add instant personality, without taking away from the furniture and homewares already in place.  They are a real conversation starter.

Below are some of my favourite indoor hanging art pieces, to inspire you – including some famous work by American sculputor Alexander Calder and more from HRUSKAA’s etsy shop.
