Located in Perth’s inner-city suburb of Northbridge you’ll find Chicho Gelato: an establishment that is one part vibrant gelataria and one part moody espresso bar.
Surrounded by landmarks such as the Western Australia Museum and Art Gallery of Western Australia, the location couldn’t be any better and thanks to the creativity of local interior design firm , will be a hit in Perth during all hours of the day (and night).
The establishment mixes contemporary materials with traditional Italian references. A solid quartzite bench anchors the space and adds a traditional aesthetic alongside the Italian terracotta tiling. For a subtle contemporary element, perforated metal panels line the bench, which showcase the pozzetti (gelato serving units with decorative lids) and running chocolate tap – a standout feature for young and old!
Various tones of blue make up the monochromatic colour palette, which is the much-needed pop of colour against the hand-made terrazzo table tops and pine-coloured bentwood stools. Traditional Italian references can be seen in the Flos Frisbi pendant lights, which are placed low above the bench to highlight the pozzetti, and the Oluce Fresnel wall sconces designed in 1978 and 1966.
The playful mix of materials and design aesthetics successfully portray the Chicho Gelato brand (which in Italian translates to “buddy” and “cheeky kid”), creating an innovative and fresh appeal that still stays true to the traditions and authenticity of an Italian gelateria.
