Uocmas is now stocking a selection of four new cashmere throws from local Sydney based brand, IN BED.
The throws are made from the highest quality 100% pure Mongolian cashmere and treated with a special washing technique to make them feel unbelievably soft to touch and drape. The throws are available in winter colours grey marle, navy, ecru and duck egg blue.
I take a second to chat with Pip Vassett, Creative Director for IN BED, about the beautiful collection.
What’s your background and how did IN BED come about?
I’ve been a fashion stylist for the last 7 or so years (at Yen magazine as Fashion Director and freelance so I’ve always been obsessed with beautiful fabrics and design. This led me to a career change in starting homewares brand IN BED in late 2013. We’ve begun with a small range of linen, cotton and cashmere. All super tactile, soft and in beautiful colour ways. ‘
I’ve always been obsessed with cashmere; especially cashmere jumpers and I wanted to make something that was sort of like a giant version of a cashmere jumper! So that was the first step.
What is the IN BED philosophy?
Our fabrics are super luxe, but done in a relaxed way. Our products are made to be lived in and cuddled up to. I like to think our homewares products are sort of like wardrobe staples (the stylist in me speaking!) – the timeless pieces you have in your closet forever and are the building blocks for all great outfits. They may not be the statement pieces but they’re what ties everything together, slot into your life effortlessly and are the pieces you turn to year in and year out.
The throws are completely indulgent – super cozy to cuddle up to on the lounge with a tea and book – they’re the perfect size for one (way too good to share!). They’re also really versatile – the fact that they’re so lightweight means that you can throw them on the end of the bed or a lounge, snuggle up to them, use them as a travel blanket or even as an oversized scarf or wrap!
Where is the material sourced from?
We use 100% cashmere from Mongolia, which is where a large proportion of the world’s cashmere comes from. Cashmere is a bit of a wonder fibre – it’s super lightweight but as anyone who’s ever worn a cashmere jumper can tell you – incredibly warm. It’s also insanely soft and doesn’t scratch like some wools and other fibres can.
What inspires IN BED?
I am predominantly inspired by how people live – I love seeing inside people’s homes and their natural, innate style. Everyone has a different way of looking at things and I find that endlessly inspiring.
Any cashmere care tips and tricks you’d like to share?
Yes – make sure you cool hand wash your cashmere throw with very gentle detergent (if any). Allow to dry naturally on a flat surface. Piling can happen with cashmere and if it does, simply run a disposable razor over the effected area very gently, then shake. Quick, easy and very effective!
