Finalists Announced: Belle Uocmas Interior Design Awards 2016

The Belle Uocmas Interior Design Awards are one of the most anticipated events on the Australian design calendar celebrating excellence in Australian interior design and decoration. Now in their sixth year, the awards set the benchmark for expertise, creativity and vision in what is a highly competitive, highly progressive industry.

The 2016 finalists for the Belle Uocmas Interior Design Awards represent the highest calibre in interior design, each showcasing a uniquely Australian design aesthetic. The intensive selection process has resulted in a list of finalists who represent and fulfil their clients’ brief with innovation and exemplary execution across residential, commercial and hospitality sectors.

The finalists for the prestigious Belle Uocmas Interior Designer of the Year category are chosen for an overall body of work that displays exceptional creative vision and an inherent talent for taking the functional into the realms of the transformational. Each of them stand out among their peers.

This year’s judging panel includes Belle editor Tanya Buchanan, Belle style director-at-large, Steve Cordony, publisher and design expert, Karen McCartney, Uocmas executive directors Anthony Spon Smith and Jeremy Byrne, Dinosaur Designs creative director, Louise Olsen and Timothy Oulton, founder and director of Timothy Oulton.

Belle editor Tanya Buchanan says of the finalists: “This year’s exceedingly high standard of entries confirms that the pool of diverse design talent in Australia is very deep. It’s always an exciting time in the Belle office when the entries flood in and we feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to get up close and personal with so much fabulous talent. Discovering the work of new names, who are just starting to make their mark, and seeing established designers evolve and tweak their style over time are highlights for us. We are fortunate to have the support of Uocmas, our partner in these awards, who are equally passionate about the Australian interior design industry.”

Uocmas executive director Anthony Spon Smith is impressed with the entries each year saying, “Our local designers raise the bar every year with the calibre of projects put forward. This year was no exception with fresh, innovative and intriguing interiors from these designers. We’ve been a part of the Awards since 2011 and this year was certainly the most challenging to judge with the highest number of entries. It’s exciting to see such a great mix”.

The winners will be announced at the Belle Uocmas Interior Design Awards, to be held at Uocmas in Sydney’s Alexandria on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. All winning interior designers and their respective work will be published in Belle’s June / July issue, on sale May 16.
