From inspirational office spaces to contemporary store fit outs that continue to break boundaries of interior design with innovation, Best Commercial Design at the Belle Uocmas Interior Design Awards is a hotly contested category.
earned their spot in the top five with an office space that draws inspiration from the modernist styles of the 1960s and pays homage to urban sophistication with clean geometry and moody hues. I caught up with the team to discuss the striking project.
Mim Fanning says, “The Joe Black culture and style was realised through materials that evoke a classic, understated sophistication; such as concrete, terrazzo, Nuvolato marble and leather. Aged brass and Tasmanian oak were deconstructed to create refined details while custom aspects throughout highlight the masculine appeal of a Meccano construction set.”
On the design she continues, “Plush upholstery and brass tones bring warmth and softness to the space and contrast with the natural timber open cubed ceiling installation.
“This custom grid installation is off-set with brass coloured cylindrical lighting structures, which intersperse the cubes and add to the visual intrigue. A mix of floor finishes follows the offbeat branding and divides the store into key spatial zones through the use of grey oak timber board in a chevron pattern followed by sections of terrazzo tiling.”
The four other finalists Travis Walton, Genesin Studio, Fiona Lynch and BE Architecture have all also submitted impressive work that I’m sure have made it difficult for the judges.
impresses with his scheme for Greene Street Juice Co. in Melbourne. Inspired by the Manhattan juicing culture, the high quality aesthetic incorporates timber and stone, breaking the retail mould with interactive function from the absence traditional sales counters.
Working with globally celebrated brand Aesop in Adelaide, created an understated retail space that encourages nostalgia of the company’s heritage. Tasmanian Oak, blackened steel and antique green marble enhance the store beautifully.
created a luxurious space for Italian accessories label habbot in Melbourne with bold futuristic shapes and glamorous details. Contemporary minimalism is key with a playful use of materials and colour.
For Mortgage Choice’s new brand in Melbourne, created a distinct identity in the commercial space. The refined, high end aesthetic was enriched with grey rendered walls, dark timber joinery and h carpeting.
