Trends Of 2018: The Return To Handmade

It’s undeniable that we are all looking for an anecdote to our fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle. The answer at was the home accessories world’s continued obsession with hand-crafted, artisanal ceramics and tableware.

Irregular shapes with an artisan touch were everywhere.  Tableware took cues from Japanese ceramics, with earthy tones, kiln fired to create individual colour variations.

Brands and designers globally employed the skills of small villages and crafts people, to offer the market something unique and spontaneous; a welcome relief to the mass consumerism we’ve become accustomed to.

Favourites for me were showcasing beautiful mid-century inspired  shapes in burnt orange and blue.

erra ceramics from Portugal focused on hand-painted skill to accent their ceramic dinnerware.

from Columbia exhibited thick, smooth hand crafted vessels and tableware with a tribal edge.

And  Chinese ceramics embraced elegant asymmetrical shapes realised in beautiful reactive ceramic glaze.

If you’ve still got a regular shaped, classic white dinner set in 2018, you’ve missed the mark.
